Extreme cold has settled over the area, bringing frigid wind chills and actual air temperatures. Currently, an Extreme Cold Warning is in effect until Saturday at noon for possible wind chills between -45F and -60F. According to the National Weather Service, frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as five minutes.
Several local businesses and organizations have delayed opening or are closed altogether due to the cold temperatures. See the list here.
So, how cold did we get overnight? Below are the coldest wind chills and actual air temperatures for Cook County and Grand Portage as of 6 a.m. Friday, January 23.
