Original post below:

Operation Family Christmas is returning for the 2025 holiday season under a new entity, Cook County Council on Aging (The Hub), following
Jes Rodne's 10 years as coordinator. The program was initially created to assist households in Cook County, MN, experiencing financial hardship during the holidays by providing support to families who meet specific residency, hardship, and income requirements.

In an interview in the Cook County News Herald in 2024, Rodne shared that part of her passion for leading the program for so long was the positive effects on families, specifically the "peace of mind for parents and so much joy for kids that may not have had anything Christmas morning." She thanked the community for their donations of gifts, the volunteers, and the non-profits and businesses that provided food cards. The Cook County Council on Aging, based at The Hub, was identified by Rodne as "the perfect entity for the continued success of Operation Family Christmas." Chris Bautch, the activities and programs director, and Kya Brazell will take the reins this year.

Applications for Operation Family Christmas can be filled out at The Hub (10 N. Broadway Ave., Grand Marais) Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., by Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Applicant households must reside in Cook County, MN, and demonstrate financial hardship, including loss of income, layoff, medical expenses, or utility shut-off.

Additionally, to qualify, a household's total income for a single month cannot exceed the following maximum limits:

  • Household Size 1: $3,119
  • Household Size 2: $4,079
  • Household Size 3: $5,039
  • Household Size 4: $5,999
  • Household Size 5: $6,959
  • Household Size 6: $7,919
  • Household Size 7: $8,099
  • Household Size 8: $8,279
