The coldest wind chill readings throughout Cook County and Grand Portage from the past 24 hours

Brr! Cold temperatures have arrived, less than two weeks from the winter solstice. The National Weather Service in Duluth issued the first Cold Weather Advisory of the season, which began on Wednesday and ended at 10 a.m. this morning. Wind chills as low as -35 F were forecast for the Cook County and Grand Portage areas. 

The following are the coldest wind chill readings from the past 24 hours. All temperatures were reported on December 12 between 4 a.m. and 8:40 a.m., unless otherwise noted. In addition, numerous reports were taken around multiple spots within Grand Marais, as reflected below. 

  • Grand Marais Airport: -43 F       
  • Grand Marais: -39 F     
  • Bay Of Grand Marais: -32 F     
  • T.h.61 Grand Marais Mp 110.8:  -32 F        
  • Grand Marais: -31 F       
  • Grand Marais: -29 F      
  • Schroeder: -28 F (recorded at 9:55 p.m. on 12/11) 
  • Grand Marais: -28 F        
  • Grand Portage RAWS: -26 F       
  • T.h.61 Schroeder - Mp 79: -25 F        
  • Seagull Lake RAWS: -25 F        
  • T.h.61 - Grand Portage - Mp: -24 F       
  • Grand Portage: -23 F       
  • Grand Marais: -19 F       

Temperatures are expected to warm into the weekend, providing optimal opportunities for winter excursions and activities.
