From Cook County - July 20, 2026
The National Incident Management Organization (NIMO) arrived in Cook County on Saturday, July 18, to assist with coordinated emergency response efforts to the Little Knife Fire and other regional fires from the July lightning storm. Since their arrival, local incident managers and NIMO personnel have been working together as operations transition to a unified command structure.
To support these efforts, NIMO will begin operating out of the Cook County Community Center facility today. Cook County staff are in the process of notifying programs and community members about changes and cancellations resulting from this temporary transition.
The following public events scheduled at the Community Center for this week are being moved to other locations as noted:
- AEOA/Second Harvest Mobile Food Pantry: Wednesday July 22nd, 1:30-2 pm, New location: Cook County Schools parking lot. Cars should enter at the parking lot entrance across from Broadway Ave. If needed, a line will form on 5th St for entry.
- Grand Marais Farmers Market: Thursday July 23rd 4:30-6 pm, New location: St. John’s Catholic Church Parking Lot, 10 5th St. Grand Marais. An indoor location will be announced as needed for rain/air quality. For updates about market location follow “Grand Marais Farmers Market” on Facebook or via the Northwoods Food Project email list at www.northwoodsfoodproject.org/newsletter.
- Grand Marais Garden Club Annual Flower Show: Saturday July 25th, noon-4 pm, New location: St. John’s Catholic Church, 10 5th St., Grand Marais
For events scheduled this week not listed above, please contact the community group leading each event to find out if they will be cancelling or moving to a new location. Cook County will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
