Four wildfires reported in the Superior National Forest

Update at 7:55 p.m. on July 7th - Additional new fire alert:
The Newton Fire, located west of Newton Lake in the BWCAW, is currently less than 1 acre.
Firefighting resources are accessing suppression options.
Updates will be provided as more information is available. Public are asked to stay out of the area for their safety and firefighting resources.
Drones are NOT allowed near any fire areas and are illegal in the BWCAW.

Four wildfires have been reported in the Superior National Forest, three within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW).
The Camp Fire, is located approximately 8 miles north/north east of the Cloquet Line by Ely. Approximate fire size is 1-2 acres with creeping ground fire activity. This fire in outside the BWCAW.
The following fires are located within the BWCAW:
The Bear Trap Fire, located by the Bear Trap River, north of Sunday Lake. It is currently .10 acre, as a single tree strike burning.
The Thumb Fire. It is approximately .10 acre, as a single tree strike burning. It is located by Thumb Lake and Contentment Lake.
The Section 3 Pond Fire is approximately one acre. It is located on Section Pond, just south of the Canadian Border.
Firefighting resources are assessing suppression strategy options.
Updates will be provided as more information is available. Public are asked to stay out of the area for their safety and firefighter safety.
Drones are NOT allowed near the fire area and are illegal in federally designated wilderness areas.
