Hot weather begins today

Jun 29, 2026 06:29AM ● By Content Editor
From the National Weather Service in Duluth - June 29, 2026

Hot weather begins today across the Northland. Expect very warm and muggy conditions, with a moderate to major heat risk inland from Lake Superior. Monday is forecast to be the hottest day of the week, with temperatures reaching the low to mid-90s for many areas. Please ensure you have access to cooling and remember to stay hydrated. Review the attached graphic for the maximum temperature and HeatRisk forecast for your specific area.

Please stay weather-aware today and tonight. We are tracking a conditional threat for severe thunderstorms across much of Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin as a warm front lifts north. There is currently a strong "cap" (a layer of warm air aloft) that may prevent storms from forming this afternoon. However, if storms do develop this afternoon, they could pack a punch with large hail up to golf ball size, 70 mph wind gusts, and heavy rain. There is also a smaller risk for hail up to baseball size, 80 mph winds, and a tornado or two. Have multiple ways to receive warnings today!
