Hundreds of community members and visitors gathered for the beloved annual Good Harbor Hill Players Summer Solstice Pageant on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Attendees began placing chairs and blankets around 5 p.m. for the 8 p.m. show, hoping to grab a prime spot to see the performance at North House Folk School.

This year's show, titled The North Star, was inspired by a Wendell Berry poem and followed a loon from birth to death in the typical Good Harbor Hill Players fashion, exploring themes of nature, community, love, hope, and, of course, the sun.

A live band provided not only the soundtrack, but also vocals and sound effects.

Over 100 volunteers came together to make sets, props, and costumes during a three-week period at open house events held at the Cook County Community Center. Performers had one opportunity to practice the show (two nights before the actual event), but strong winds prevented them from using any props or costumes during the dress rehearsal.

The Good Harbor Hill Players were founded in 1999 and host an annual summer and winter solstice performance. To learn more or see videos of past performances, visit: https://www.goodharborhillplayers.org/home
