Cook County will close the Tofte Transfer Station beginning Wednesday, May 27, 2026, to demolish the existing facility and construct a new, updated transfer station. The project is expected to take approximately 30 days, with reopening targeted around July 1, 2026.

During construction a temporary dump station will be located just south of the Cook County Highway Department Shop. Operating hours for the temporary site will remain the same as the current Tofte Transfer Station hours.  Some services may limited so please call if you have questions.

North Shore Waste and Cook County appreciate the community’s patience as the new transfer station is built to better serve residents and improve waste handling and safety.
