Grand Portage National Monument in partnership with the Grand Marais Art Colony and the National Parks of Lake Superior Foundation, is pleased to announce the launch of its inaugural Artist-in-Residence program. This new initiative invites artists to pursue their creative work while immersed in the monument’s striking natural setting, extensive collections, and the rich cultural history of Gichi Onigaming (Grand Portage). The program aims to foster innovative artistic expression by sharing the cultural legacy of this significant heritage site.

The residency is scheduled from August 31 through September 12, 2026, and the deadline to apply is May 22. Interested applicants may apply by visiting Grand Marais Art Colony – SlideRoom.

Grand Portage National Monument is a fee-free site co-managed with the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa and was established to preserve a vital center of fur trade activity and Anishinaabeg Ojibwe Heritage.
