Spring road restrictions ending for paved roads in Cook County

May 14, 2026 07:58AM ● By Content Editor

From Cook County, MN - May 14, 2026

Seasonal load restrictions on Cook County’s paved roads and paved sections of roads will end at 12:01 am on Friday, May 15, in accordance with Minnesota’s guidance for the North frost zone. Legal weight trucks can use these paved roads and paved sections of roads, unless otherwise posted.

All other roads remain restricted to the limits on posted signs, generally 5 tons per axle on gravel roads. Road conditions on gravel roads and gravel sections of roads will be inspected this week, and an additional notice will be sent out on Thursday (5/14/26).

Going forward, load restrictions on each gravel road will be removed as soon as conditions allow.
Haulers are asked to be mindful of posted bridges, which have year-round varying load restrictions, on some Cook County highways. Any questions can be directed to the Highway Department at (218) 387-3014.
