In anticipation of the storm, City of Grand Marais officials have issued a reminder of the winter parking rules, specifically that there is no overnight parking along Highway 61. They are asking for the public's cooperation to help plows effectively clear the roads and move snow.
According to officials, crews are still working to remove snow from last week's historic blizzard.
City municipal code states that, as of November 15, 2025, alternate-side parking has been in effect. On odd-numbered calendar days, parking is permitted on the odd-numbered address side of the street, and on even-numbered calendar days, parking is permitted on the even-numbered address side. However, a period from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. each day is in place to allow people to move their vehicles to an approved location. During this time, the winter parking ordinances will not be enforced. Outside of that time (12:01 a.m. to 4:59 p.m.), any vehicle not compliant may be towed.
In addition, the city's municipal code states that parking is prohibited along the following areas between the times of 2:00 am and 7:00 am:
- Along Highway 61
- Broadway Avenue, south of Highway 61
- First Avenue West, south of Highway 61
- Second Avenue West, south of Highway 61
- Wisconsin Street, east of Highway 61
- First Street, east of Highway 61
- First Avenue East, south of Highway 61
Parking is prohibited on both sides of 5th Avenue West between Highway 61 and 1st Street.
Winter parking ordinances are in effect through April 15, 2026; however, the city may issue a snow emergency after that date, when parking restrictions will once again be in place.
