About half a dozen times a year ermine (short-tailed weasel) will come around our bird feeders. Except for the black tip on the tail, their fur is brown in the summer and white in the winter. We have some old stumps between the bird feeder and our flower garden. The ermine love to scurry through these logs.
They are super swift and never stay in the same spot for more than a few seconds making it hard to get photos. I was shoveling snow and sat down to rest. I don’t know how I was able to pick out the white against white as it dashed in and out of the snow drifts. They are cute, but don’t let that fool you. They can take down prey that are much larger than themselves.
