The Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation Board of Directors elected two new members to join the board beginning in 2026:

  • Sarah Jorgenson Hallberg is the Operations Manager of the Java Moose Espresso Café, a business her family has owned for more than two decades. Sarah brings extensive nonprofit board experience to the Foundation, serving on the Violence Prevention Center, WTIP Advisory Board, and Cook County Chamber of Commerce board, among others.

  •  Alyssa Hedstrom owns and leads the Grand Marais Family Dentistry practice. She is a founding member of the Oral Health Task Force, which has worked to dramatically improve the oral health of children in Cook County and Grand Portage. Alyssa has also served on the Cook County Whole Foods Co-op and Great Expectations School boards.

Both Alyssa and Sarah bring strong community connections to the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation board and are excited to help guide our philanthropy across Minnesota’s North Shore.

The board and staff of the Foundation also celebrated Steve Surbaugh, who completed his 9 years of service to the Foundation. Steve served as President of the Foundation for four years and Vice President for two years. To honor his service, the Board awarded a $10,000 grant to the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa to support the renovation of the fitness room at the Community Center.

The Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation expands opportunities for people and communities on the North Shore. We do this through intentional giving, a commitment to place, and working with people to make this region and its future better for everyone.
