How did you land in Cook County?  What journey led you here?
I was actually born here at the Grand Marais hospital. My family roots are here. My dad is Bill Hackett. His mom was Harriet Walsh. My mom is Carol Hackett, but her maiden name is Beckwith. Henry and Gladys Beckwith were my grandparents. I grew up in Silver Bay.  I moved back and forth to the Twin Cities, but landed back here to stay and raised my 2 boys, Shawn and Ben here.

Friends and family would use these words to describe you?
SHY! Just kidding! Just the opposite!

Where is your favorite go-to spot in Cook County for a day of fun and relaxation?
Because my mom, dad, aunt and uncle all live in Grand Portage next to each other, I like going up there to visit and relax as much as possible.

What is life like now that you have the treasured title of being a grandmother?
Oh my gosh!  It’s a whole different kind of love! That little girl makes me melt every time I see her. I’m so proud of the life my son Shawn and Zola have made for my first grandchild, who actually was born on my 55th birthday!

What are some memorable jobs that you have worked at over the years?
The last 5 years I’ve worked at ISD 166 as a preschool paraprofessional.  Those little kids are so much fun! But recently my daughter-in-law Zola asked, “Mom, will you quit your job at the school and come work for me at subway when I buy it?” So needless to say, I’m now a sandwich artist!

I also work at Hungry Hippie Tacos. Keeble's are so awesome to work for! And I enjoy couple nights a week yet cashiering at Johnson’s.

Do you have any New Year's resolutions for 2026?
I really don’t have one. Just to make the best of my life with my friends and family.
