After being arrested earlier this month on arson and insurance fraud charges, Lutsen Resort owner Bryce Campbell made his first court appearance on Monday and was released from Lake County jail on bail.

Campbell, who faces charges of first-degree arson and insurance fraud in connection with the February 2024 fire that destroyed the historic lodge, appeared in Cook County court on Monday.

The court set Campbell’s bail at $500,000 without conditions, or a reduced amount of $100,000 with specific court-mandated restrictions.

By Tuesday morning, records confirmed that Campbell was released from custody after posting a $100,000 conditional bail, which he voluntarily chose over the $500,000 bail.

To remain out of jail while awaiting trial, he must adhere to the following court-ordered requirements:

  • He must remain in Minnesota unless granted permission by both the court and his probation officer to leave.

  • He is strictly prohibited from possessing any firearms, ammunition, or other weapons.

  • He is required to report to a probation officer on the first day of every month.

Campbell's next court date is scheduled for March 9, 2026.
