A Boreal Community Media Exclusive - December 13, 2025

Danielle is the new Public Information Coordinator for Cook County and North Shore Health.

How did you land in Cook County?  What journey brought you here?
I, like many Minnesotans, was fortunate enough to visit Grand Marais as a child every now and then. I’ve always loved Grand Marais and still have yet to find another town with the same mix of beauty, history, art, work ethic, and general charm. I have lived in Finland MN (technically Lake County…) since 2013 when I move there to work at Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center. My partner and I were captured by the place and people of the area, so much so we decided to lay down our roots and start a family here.

What excites you about your new role as the Public Information Coordinator for Cook County and North Shore Health?
My professional background is predominately in Education. I’ve been fortunate to learn and practice a lot of educational philosophy, and I realized early on that being a good educator is really about being a good communicator. To be a good communicator, you have to slow down, pay attention, and listen to your audience in order to know how to reach them. We all learn differently, so we need information in different ways. I’m excited to transfer my skills in education to this role.

I also had the opportunity to serve as the Treasurer of my local county. Through that role I was inspired by the vital role communication played in making sure community members had access to accurate, timely, and digestible information- which then allowed them to participate in their local government. I see this role as a connector to ensure the community has access to institutional resources available and that is exciting to me.

First impression of living and working in Cook County?
People care! And will show up. I love that. People have a strong pride in living and working here and want it to be a real, connected, thriving community for generations to come.

Have you discovered a favorite spot in the County yet where you enjoy going to relax when you are not busy at work?
This time of year, I’d say any of the amazing ski trails! I also find it incredibly relaxing to go stand on a frozen lake on a quiet night. During the summer & fall, my garden for sure.

What is a surprising fact about you that many may not know?

I’ve been jumping in Lake Superior once a month since October 2020 with a group of wonderful women. I haven’t missed a month since we started!

What is one Christmas wish that you are hoping Santa grants this year?
That winter keeps bringing nice snow to enjoy.
