The North Shore Music Association (NSMA) is thrilled to announce the release of a new film documenting its recent residency with the acclaimed ensemble Bizhiki. Produced in collaboration with Bear Witness Media, the film captures the transformative week of music, storytelling, and  community engagement that took place in November across schools and public programs in Cook County.

The residency brought Bizhiki’s genre-defying music and rich narratives directly to students and audiences alike. From interactive workshops in local schools to public concerts, the ensemble inspired curiosity, creativity,  and connection throughout the community. The film showcases these moments, offering viewers a chance to  relive the energy of the residency or experience it for the first time.

“Working with Bizhiki was a gift for our schools and our community,” said Barbara Jean Meyers, Executive  Director of NSMA. “This film allows us to share that experience far beyond the walls of the classroom or  concert hall, and to celebrate the power of music to bring people together.”

This work was supported in part by generous grants from the Boreal Waters Community Foundation,  specifically the Anishinabe Fund and the Cook County Community Fund. NSMA is grateful for their support  in helping make this residency and film possible.

The film is now available to stream (via the link or below), providing audiences with an inside look at the residency, including performances, student interactions, and behind-the-scenes storytelling.

NSMA’s collaboration with Bizhiki is part of its ongoing commitment to bring high-quality music experiences to rural and underserved communities, foster creativity in young people, and cultivate meaningful connections through the arts.
