From Cook County - December 12, 2025
In response to heightened community needs during the government shutdown and the temporary suspension of federal SNAP benefits in late October, Cook County Public Health and Human Services (PHHS) organized a Community Food Drive and Pop-Up Food. The effort, saw strong community participation and immediate impact.
Although the shutdown has ended and SNAP benefits have since been issued, PHHS staff and organizers have recognized the ongoing need for food support among Cook County residents. As a result, the Community Food Drive and Pop-Up Pantry will continue to operate through January 2, 2026.
"We encourage members of the community to continue to donate items to the food drive if they are able, and for those in need of additional support, to continue to take what they need.” Stated Plamen Dimitrov Interim PHHS Director. The Pop-Up Pantry is located in the Cook County Courthouse lobby, where community members can independently access shelf-stable foods and essential items. Community members may also drop off donations during courthouse business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
