The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has officially launched its annual "Name a Snowplow" contest, inviting residents to submit names for the winter trucks.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation website, the submission window for the 2025-2026 contest is open from Tuesday, Dec. 9, through noon on Friday, Dec. 19, 2025. Names must be family-friendly and nonpartisan, and only one submission per person is allowed.

Following the deadline, MnDOT staff will review all entries and select a list of finalists for the public voting round scheduled for January 2026.

Examples of past winners include: Snowtorious B.I.G., Plowabunga!, Taylor Drift, Beyonsleigh, Yer a Blizzard, Harry, Han Snowlo, Scoop! There It Is, and Sleetwood Mac, We're Off To See The Blizzard, Don'tcha Snow, Blader Tot Hotdish, and Waipahinte (a Dakota word for "snowplow").
