Music lovers on the North Shore are in for a rare treat as celebrated folk-blues artist Charlie Parr joins forces with acclaimed drummer JT Bates for a one-of-a-kind performance at Up Yonder on April 26, 2025.

Parr, a beloved figure in American roots music, is known for his raw, heartfelt songwriting and relentless touring schedule, performing up to 275 shows a year. His latest album, Little Sun (2024), continues his tradition of evocative storytelling, drawing influence from blues greats like Lead Belly and Woody Guthrie while reflecting his working-class Duluth upbringing. With 19 albums over two decades, Parr remains a vital voice in contemporary folk music.

Joining him is JT Bates, a drummer whose vast career spans jazz, folk, and rock. A sought-after session player, Bates has contributed to Grammy-winning and nominated albums, including Taylor Swift’s Folklore and Evermore, Bon Iver, The National, and Ed Sheeran. His deep rhythmic intuition and dynamic versatility make him a force behind the kit, whether performing, producing, or crafting his own solo projects.

This special collaboration promises an electrifying fusion of Parr’s poetic folk-blues and Bates’ masterful drumming, offering audiences an intimate and unforgettable evening of music on the North Shore.
