The National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth has issued a Wind Advisory for Cook County and Grand Portage, beginning at 6 pm on Friday, January 17, and ending at 6:00 am on Saturday, January 18.
20 to 25 mph winds out of the northwest are expected, with gusts up to 50 mph. The NWS warns that winds will blow perpendicular to Highway 61, which may cause some issues driving, especially for high-profile vehicles traveling the highway. Additionally, winds could cause trees or limbs to fall on power lines and cause outages.
A Gale Warning is in effect from now until 10 am Saturday, January 17. Waves of 6-9 feet are expected from Grand Portage to Taconite Harbor.
A strong cold front will bring some of the coldest wind chill temperatures of the season starting tomorrow and into next week.
