Many people across the county started the workweek off with flicking or loss of power and internet, downed trees, or wind damage. Some are still without power in the Cook County area as of this morning.
The National Weather Service in Duluth recorded a 68mph wind gust in the Bay of Grand Marais around 9 a.m. yesterday, which was only 1 mph lower than the top wind speed of 69 mph recorded in Silver Bay. The Grand Marais Airport's top wind gusts reached around 50 mph. A high wind warning was issued for Cook County until 10 a.m.
Around 6 p.m. last night, many in the county were still without power. According to Arrowhead Cooperative, of the nearly 6,000 meters on the electric system, 3600 had been out, and the numbers are still being tallied.
Crews worked until approximately 9:30 p.m.—10:00 p.m. and began working as early as 6 a.m. this morning. Arrowhead Cooperative shared that due to six broken poles, crews will be in the Lutsen, Colvill, and Rosebush Creek areas, where residents have been without power since yesterday morning.
