The Climate Prediction Center released an updated temperature and precipitation outlook on September 30, and the forecast looks to stay on our current trend of above-average temperatures and below-average precipitation.

Between October 8 and 14, there is a 60-70% chance of temperatures above normal, which for this time of year ranges from 38 F to 49 F (for the month). Regarding precipitation, there is a 40-50% chance we will see lower than normal precipitation amounts, which for Cook County in October hovers around 2.9".

This outlook comes at a time of moderate drought in the area, which has caused low water levels in rivers, streams, and lakes and increased the chance of wildfires. Starting on October 1, the US Forest Service has issued a temporary ban on campfires within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. No open burning is permitted, per the Minnesota DNR, for all of NE Minnesota until further notice.
