According to the National Weather Service-Duluth, forecasted low relative humidity and high wind gusts will lead to near-critical fire conditions through at least Wednesday this week. The fire danger for Cook County is currently "High," meaning that fires can start easily and spread rapidly. Burning restrictions are in place, with variance permits allowed. Campfires are also allowed in approved fire rings or firepits. A red-flag warning has been issued for much of SW, Central, and Northern Minnesota.

Little precipitation was received throughout the past few weeks, and many areas are expected to land in the top 10 driest September on record. Cook County is currently listed as experiencing a moderate drought, a change from June of this year when most of the state was drought-free. Little to no precipitation is in the forecast for this week.
