Good news as we head into the warmest months of the year: nearly all of Minnesota is drought-free. This is the first time in 2024, and according to MRP, the first time in two years.

A map released on June 6 by the US Drought Monitor shows one small portion of North Central Minnesota experiencing minor drought conditions, with the rest experiencing none.

A year ago at this time, only approximately 28% of the state was drought-free, with 72% experiencing abnormally dry conditions, and 12% experiencing moderate drought.

A wet spring has aided in reducing the drought levels, with the US Drought Monitor reporting much of Minnesota has received over 15 inches of precipitation in the past three months. This much-needed moisture comes on top of a very dry winter season.
