Fish Toss

The Lion’s Club Fish Toss is one of the last events of Fisherman’s Picnic. This year’s edition proved again to be entertaining as contestants tossed slimy herring fish down Wisconsin Street. 90 minutes of competition brought through dozens of competitors to see who could back up the furthest and still catch the fish from their partner’s toss. The event is sponsored by North Superior Fisheries. All Fish Toss photos from Tryg Solberg.

Here is a list of the winners:

Women
Bailey and Anna Benolkin - Coon Rapids, MN

Mixed
Selah and Silas Martineau - Zimmerman, MN

Men
Cole and Mason Greene - Dover, DE

Kids
Nico Tersteeg and Lucas Peters, Grand Marais, MN

The toss can quickly become gory as the fish become "well-used".

A hefty herring toss of about 40 feet proved difficult for this competitor's partner to catch.
