What more could anyone ask for: a bright full moon, luminaries, a bonfire, and refreshments to kick off the Cook County Hygge Festival?

On Saturday, February 4th, 2023, at 5:30pm, the Cook County School District 166 PTA, in partnership with Drury Lane Books, is hosting its annual Many Tiny Lights event and fundraiser outside of Drury Lane Books in Grand Marias.

Boreal Community Media spoke with District 166 PTA President Marcela Perez-Abreu to learn more about the event.

"Mila Horak, ISD #166 art teacher, thought up the event five (or so) years ago and pitched it to PTA. We've been doing it every year since," Perez-Abreu said.

The PTA will be making luminaries which can be sponsored in memory or honor of someone, or just for fun, for $5 apiece.

"The $5 is a suggested donation, which helps raise funds for the PTA. The PTA uses the funds throughout the school year for a variety of things such as: teacher classroom supply requests, end-of-year ice cream treats for all PK-12th graders, teacher/classroom/library books, field trips, teacher conference staff snacks, staff appreciation week gifts, etc," Perez-Abreu mentioned.

Donations for the luminaries/PTA can be made at the event, or dropped off at the District 166 front office before the event.

Perez-Abreu added that they can always use volunteer help 1-1.5 hours before the event to help set up. It takes many hands to make this happen.

"More hands=faster set up."

The event will include a bonfire, apple cider, cookies, and if inclined, people can bring a song or reading about the full moon to share.
