The Grand Marais Public Library invites youth ages 0–18 to take part in this year’s free Summer Reading Program. The theme is Plant a Seed, Read!, and the program runs June 8 through August 14.

Designed to nurture youth reading, exploring, and creating all summer long, the program includes reading challenges, prizes, drop-in activities, and free family events. No registration or library card is required, and both residents and visitors are welcome to participate.

Families can look forward to live reptiles with Sarah’s Serpentarium, a concert with the Jolly Pops, hands-on aquatic insect exploration with Nature Connect, and a season finale community picnic featuring Makwa the black bear — a giant wooden puppet who will lead a parade from the library to Harbor Park.

Library staff wants to recognize Cook County students, families, and educators on another school year completed, with special congratulations to this year’s graduates.

We also extend thanks to the many community partners helping “ROOT” for readers this summer, including Library Friends of Cook County, Java Moose, Hungry Hippie Tacos, Superior Creamery, Dairy Queen, and Drury Lane Books.

More information and event details will be shared throughout the summer on the Grand Marais Public Library website.
