Hundreds of Trail Enthusiasts to Celebrate 40 Years of the Superior Hiking Trail on Saturday, June 6 with a Community-wide Hike and Party

Since being established in 1986, the Superior Hiking Trail has become more than a footpath — it’s a living link between people, place, and purpose. To celebrate the Trail’s 40th anniversary, the Superior Hiking Trail Association (SHTA) is inviting the community to take part in the Superior Hiking Trail’s Ultimate Birthday Celebration on Saturday, June 6, which also marks National Trails Day.
Hundreds of hikers, runners, and SHT supporters will collectively traverse every mile of the 300-mile Superior Hiking Trail. Participants can register online to choose their preferred section of Trail to hike, run, or explore at their own pace.
Following the hike, folks are invited to attend one of four regional birthday parties from 4 - 7 PM hosted at amazing local businesses: Voyageur Brewing Company in Grand Marais, Bluefin Bay Resort in Tofte, Castle Danger Brewery in Two Harbors, and Ursa Minor Brewing in Duluth.
The parties will have SHT-themed treats (while supplies last), prize giveaways (including retired wooden SHT signs), and limited-edition 40th anniversary merchandise available for purchase. Most importantly, attendees will have the opportunity to connect with fellow Trail lovers, including Trail Legends who played key roles in building and sustaining the Superior Hiking Trail over the past four decades.
“This is about the Superior Hiking Trail community, all the volunteers, members, and supporters who have given so much over the last four decades to make the Trail a reality.” says SHTA Board Chair Barry Cattadoris. “We are bringing the community together to share stories, connect with each other, and celebrate the collective efforts that got us to 40 years! We welcome anyone who finds joy on the Superior Hiking Trail to join the Ultimate Birthday Celebration on Saturday, June 6.”
