The North Shore Music Association (NSMA) invites the community to gather for a lively evening of music and dance on Saturday, May 2 at 7:00 PM at the Hovland Town Hall, featuring Midwest old-time and bluegrass group Steam Machine.
This special event will be both a concert and a community dance, with a caller guiding participants through the steps—making it welcoming for dancers of all experience levels. Whether you’ve been dancing for years or have never set foot on the floor, all are encouraged to join in.
Steam Machine is a Midwest-based old-time and bluegrass project fronted by award-winning fiddler AJ Srubas and guitarist and dance enthusiast Rina Rossi. Joined by a rotating cast of standout musicians on banjo and bass, the group brings a deep love of traditional music to life with energy, skill, and joy.
Drawing from the rich fiddle traditions of the Midwest and beyond, Steam Machine blends careful attention to the “old stuff” with a fresh, vibrant sound. Their performances are known for their infectious spirit and connection to dance traditions, making them a perfect fit for a community gathering like this one.
Recognized as finalists in the Appalachian String Band Music Festival (Clifftop) Traditional Band Contest, Folk Alliance Midwest Official Showcase Artists, and teaching artists with Minnesota Public Radio’s Class Notes program, Steam Machine has spent recent years touring widely and sharing their love of fiddle music across the country.
“The Midwest has such impressive old-time and bluegrass talent, and Steam Machine is exhibit A,” writes Adventures in Americana.
Set in the historic Hovland Town Hall, this evening offers a chance to come together—neighbors, friends, and newcomers alike—to share in music, movement, and community.
The concert and dance will take place on Saturday, May 2 at 7:00 PM at the Hovland Town Hall. Tickets are sliding scale, and the event is free for K–12 students.
Tickets are available at northshoremusicassociation.com or nsma.simpletix.com.
