The Ski North Ultra wrapped up Saturday along the North Shore, sending skiers across 38 or 100 kilometers of classic-only sticky and “punchy” trails through the Norpine, Cascade River State Park, and Bally Creek systems.
Taking the 100-kilometer win this year was Sam Holt of Minneapolis, who crossed the finish line first after a long day of climbing, descending, and navigating the rugged North Shore terrain. Karl Holub of Duluth finished second, with Ryan Rogers of Minneapolis rounding out the podium in third. The top three finishers of the 38-kilometer race were Maddi McDermott of Mendota Heights, Brian Rhode of Duluth, and Melissa Najarian of Duluth.
The Ski North Ultra challenges skiers to complete the full 100K course within a 12-hour cutoff, making it one of the most demanding endurance ski races in the Midwest.
