According to an update released by the Minnesota Incident Command Center around 9:30 a.m. on October 9, 2025, the Crosby Fire's size is 50 acres, burning primarily in an area of mixed maple hardwoods and fall leaf litter with 0% containment, and the cause is undetermined. The fire started on October 8, 2025, around 1:15 p.m., in George H. Crosby Manitou State Park, or about 10 miles southwest of Tofte near the Caribou River.

The Minnesota Incident Command Center shared in an October 9 release that fire activity overnight was "minimal."

The remote, steep terrain within the area of George H. Crosby Manitou State Park, where the fire is located, is difficult for firefighters to access. Yesterday, multiple aircraft were brought in to support firefighters on the ground, providing water drops that helped cool and slow down the active flames.

The State Park and Superior Hiking Trail remain open, but due to the increase in activity and use of aircraft, "visitors are advised to use caution." No closures are reported at this time.

The Minnesota Incident Command Center shared in an update that planned actions for October 9 include "firefighters continuing suppression efforts utilizing aircraft resources as needed and establishing a containment line." Temperatures are expected to warm into the upper 50s to lower 60s, with a relative humidity of 35 to 50 percent or higher along the north shore. Showers are possible later this afternoon into the evening.
