Firefighters responding to wildfire near Crosby Manitou State Park

Updated post 10/9/2025: Crosby Fire grows to 50 acres, 0% contained, firefighters continuing suppression efforts
Firefighters are responding to a wildfire detected near Crosby Manitou State Park, or 10 miles southwest of Tofte near the Caribou River. The wildfire is approximately 30-35 acres in size, and is in a remote area, "smoldering and creeping in mixed hardwoods and leaf litter," according to the Minnesota Incident Command Center.
Firefighters from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Superior National Forest are on-site. Aircraft is also being used in fire suppression efforts.
The fire was initially detected around 1:15 p.m. on October 8. It is unknown if any structures are in danger.
The public is asked to stay away, and are reminded that the use of drones are not permitted in or near the fire area.
