The North Shore Music Association is proud to present the internationally acclaimed  Ancia Saxophone Quartet in concert at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts on Saturday, September 13,  2025, at 7 PM.

Praised for their “energy, precision, and huge dynamic range” (Eugene Rousseau), the Ancia Saxophone  Quartet has captivated audiences worldwide with their compelling interpretations and boundary-pushing  repertoire. With over thirty years of experience, Ancia has established itself as one of the leading saxophone  ensembles of its kind, commissioning and premiering works by renowned composers such as Libby Larsen,  Jennifer Higdon, and Lei Liang.

Chamber Music America describes Ancia as an ensemble that “approaches the commissioning and performing  of new works as a special mission,” and their performances have been hailed as “stunning” and “exquisite.”  Their most recent recording, Confluence (Albany Records, 2023), features a major environmentally-themed  work by Libby Larsen, which premiered at the World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, France and was  featured in a special Earth Day broadcast on NPR’s Performance Today.

Based in Minneapolis, Ancia is known not only for its adventurous programming—which spans from the  medieval music of Hildegard von Bingen to the jazz of Duke Ellington—but also for its commitment to  education and outreach. In advance of their Grand Marais performance, Ancia will work in-depth with students  from ISD 166’s middle school band program on Friday, September 12, offering masterclasses and mentorship  to the next generation of musicians.

This performance offers local audiences a rare opportunity to hear a world-class chamber ensemble live on the  North Shore. Ancia’s dynamic performances and genre-spanning repertoire promise a concert experience that is  both engaging and inspiring.
