Monthly Memory Café
Thursday, August 21 | 1:00-2:30pm | The Hub

The Memory Café meets on the third Thursdays of each month through October, from 1-2:30pm at The Hub. A Memory Café is a free, casual gathering where people with memory loss and the family or friends who care for them can come together in a safe, supportive, relaxed environment. Each month we also welcome a guest from the community who stops by and visits about their hobby, art, or area of interest or expertise. In August, we welcome Marie Tessier (aka "Origami Marie.") Marie is an active Grand Marais community member who is no stranger to The Hub, as she offers weekly tech assistance there. Marie will tell us about the ancient craft of origami, and help us create our own simple, fun piece of paper art. No pre-registration is required for the Memory Café - feel free to just drop in! Learn more about the Memory Café and upcoming guests.

AGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY HAPPENINGS

From our friends at The Hub
Thursdays in August | 10:30am
Fiber artist Linda Bauer will be on hand Thursday mornings in August at The Hub to teach knitting and felting. All are welcome - from true beginners who want to learn the basics, to more advanced knitters and felters who would like to expand their skills. Some supplies will be available, or feel free to bring your current project or materials you have on hand. Just stop by...and perhaps stay for a wonderful lunch at noon! Learn more about lunch at the Hub!
Toastmasters | Monday, August 11 | noon-1pm
Your voice is important - but public speaking can be a bit scary. Let Toastmasters inspire you to speak more confidently, whether you are asked to make presentations at work, your faith community, or a civic organization, or you want to better communicate at social gatherings. Check out the fun and supportive environment of a Toastmasters meeting on August 11th from noon to 1pm at the Hub. For more info, call the Hub at 218-387-2660 or email Bruce Tyler at [email protected].

Are you passionate about food access for all?
The newly-formed Food Access Council seeks to strengthen people’s ability to grow, access, and prepare food through educational programs, local services, and advocating for systems-level changes that reduce hunger and food insecurity. All are welcome to attend Council meetings, or those who would like to be more actively involved in supporting the Council's mission can seek to become members. Public Health Supervisor Grace Grinager recently spoke with WTIP about the Food Access Council - learn more here!
