Cook County Schools To Hold November Bond Referendum, Provides Detailed Resources for Voters

From Cook County ISD 166 - August 1, 2025

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, voters in the Cook County School District will consider a $6.65 bond referendum to invest in the district's performing arts center, outdoor learning environments, and athletics facilities. The district has launched an updated website, VikingsVision.org, to help keep the community informed about its upcoming referendum.

Voter approval of the referendum would unlock a $5 million grant from the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB), reducing the cost to local taxpayers.

“This referendum is an opportunity to strengthen our role as a regional hub for education, athletics, and the arts,” said Superintendent Chris Lindholm. “These programs are more than just ‘extras’ – students involved in performing arts, athletics, and other activities often earn higher grades and develop life skills like teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.”

If approved by voters, the referendum would support:

  • Modernizing the Arrowhead Center for the Arts

  • Building a track and multi-use turf field that would allow Cook County athletes to train and compete locally

  • Upgrading the baseball field with lighting, improved seating, and proper drainage

  • Creating outdoor learning spaces and improving accessibility across our facilities

The estimated tax impact on a $400,000 home (the district median) is $4 per month starting in 2026–about half the cost of last year’s proposal for similar improvements.

“Plays, music, dance programs, and film screenings are all things that create community,” said Barbara Jean Meyers, Executive Director of the North Shore Music Association. “There really isn’t anything else like Arrowhead Center for the Arts in our area. If that space can move into the next phase, it would have positive ripple effects not just for students, but our entire community.”

Residents are encouraged to explore VikingsVision.org to learn more and make their voices heard on this important community decision. The updated site shares details on the district’s proposed plan, the challenges it aims to address, the cost and taxpayer impact, voting information, and answers to frequently asked questions. All voting for the referendum will be conducted by mail, with ballots sent to registered voters in early October.
