As many North Shore visitors were gathered along the harbor to avoid the inland heat yesterday, they were treated to a very unique rainbow. Storms were moving just north of town. When the sun came out the show began. People started saying the rainbow looked like a band of aurora in the sky. As the storm moved out over the lake so did the rainbow which lined up behind the Grand Marais lighthouse. It was one of the most beautiful and unique rainbows I have seen. It really did look like aurora.

It moved more to the right of the lighthouse and slowly disappeared. We were speculating that maybe it was the smoke in the air from the Canadian wildfires that caused the colors to disperse as they did. I was sure glad I happened to be in the right place to witness the awesome beauty of the storm.
