A free Youth Mental Health First Aid training program is scheduled for July 29th, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Cook County Higher Ed.

The training is designed to provide attendees with information on how to identify, understand, and respond to indications of mental health and substance use challenges in youth aged 12-18. It also addresses methods for providing initial support and connecting youth with relevant resources.

Upon completion of the program, participants are expected to be able to:

  • Identify common signs and symptoms associated with mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

  • Identify common signs and symptoms associated with substance use challenges.

  • Describe methods for interacting with a young person experiencing a crisis.

  • Outline procedures for connecting a young person with support.

  • Understand concepts related to trauma, substance use, self-care, and the influence of social media and bullying.

Two hours of online pre-learning are required prior to the in-person session. Registration is available through the CCHE Website. Inquiries can be directed to Andrea Orest at [email protected].

The program is a collaborative effort involving Cook County Higher Education, Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, and Cook County Public Health & Human Services.
