Earlier this week, many parts of the Arrowhead region experienced excessive rainfall, resulting in minor flooding and washouts along rivers, creeks, roads, and trails. On Wednesday, the Superior Hiking Trail Association (SHTA) issued a High Water Advisory due to elevated water levels along the trail. The SHTA warned that fording rivers and creeks in the area may be unsafe and unpredictable.

The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, according to a SHTA Facebook post. However, updated conditions will be listed under the
Trail Conditions page on the SHTA website as they become available.

Until more specific information comes in, SHTA recommends trail users to "
exercise caution" when approaching creeks, rivers, or any body of water. "If you come to a section of trail that is flooded near a river or creek, there may be unseen undercutting of the tread," adding that "Bridges and other structures that appear to have shifted or been damaged during this high water event may not be safe to use."

If a trail is not safe to continue, it is important to have an alternate route planned.

SHTA is asking for observations and trail reports from those using the Superior Hiking Trail. A Trail Incident Report form is available on the SHTA website
