I was already in bed when I looked out the window and saw the tell-tale green lights in the Northern Sky. They had predicted aurora around 1:00 AM so I had set my alarm but it arrived early.
I grabbed my camera and headed towards Caribou Lake boat landing. When I arrived at Caribou Lake it was 11:30. No one else showed up for the show so I had the place all to myself and the wildlife around me. The reflections in the water were as good as you could ask for. Soon the rays of light started dancing across the sky. They got livelier and brighter as they moved from west to east. The moon had now ascended above the tree line so it started to add light to the trees across the lake.
Fifteen minutes later and it was over. The rays settled back down to just green on the horizon and then disappeared completely. If I would have been any later, I would have missed it. You never know when the light show will materialize which is probably why it becomes more memorable when everything comes together.
