Original post:
Rallies are scheduled to take place across hundreds of cities nationwide this weekend, under the topic of "No Kings." The events are being held as a way for people to express opposition to aspects of the current administration's policies, specifically that "[President] Trump is not above the law."
Most of the protests are scheduled to take place on June 14, to counter the military parade in Washington, DC, marking the Army's 250th anniversary, Flag Day, and President Trump's birthday. According to The Associated Press, the Army birthday celebration was already planned; however, earlier this year, President Trump announced his intention to ratchet up the event to include 60-ton M1 Abrams battle tanks and Paladin self-propelled howitzers rolling through the city streets."
In St. Paul, MN, a "No Kings" protest is planned for Saturday, June 14th, and over 10,000 people are expected to participate. The event is scheduled to take place at St. Paul College, followed by a march to the State Capitol and a rally once there. Governor Tim Walz, Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, and Attorney General Keith Ellison are among the individuals expected to attend, according to a report by CBS News, along with civil rights attorney Nekima Levy Armstrong.
Protests are also scheduled in areas in northern Minnesota, including Duluth, Chisholm, Virginia, Grand Rapids, Bemidji, Brainerd, and more.
In Cook County, Minnesota, Arrowhead Indivisible has organized a "No Kings! Rally" for Friday, June 13th, at 5:00 p.m. along the sidewalk near Java Moose. According to the organizers, this rally is being held on Friday instead of Saturday due to the local Pride festival, which is scheduled for June 14th.
