Last Saturday, the Cook County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the new outdoor gear & gift store, Northern Goods, located in Grand Marais. Owners of Northern Goods, Mitch and Steph Reaume, originally opened in December 2024 after purchasing the Stone Harbor Wilderness Supply building from long-time owner Jack Stone, but made it official this weekend.
A portion of the shop’s sales is donated to charities dedicated to preserving the area’s clean waters. They hosted a booth from the organization “Save the Boundaries Waters” and have partnered with them to show their commitment to protecting local ecosystems.
Northern Goods aims to provide a platform for local artists and businesses to showcase and sell their products. Above the store, the Reaumes have created a "micro hotel," which includes a suite and a studio, along with communal kitchen, living, and patio space.
