Drury Lane Books has recently released its 2025 Author Events schedule. The Grand Marais bookshop will host a variety of author talks, meet-and-greets, and full-moon readings throughout the year.

Author talks invite attendees to listen to a brief presentation from an author, which includes a reading from one of their books, followed by an opportunity to have their books signed and to meet the author. Sometimes, the events feature special components, such as this one with Teresa Peterson, Utuhu Cistinna Win, a Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota citizen from the Upper Sioux Community, who visited to discuss her book, Perennial Ceremony: Lessons and Gifts from a Dakota Garden. In addition to a short presentation and book reading, the event also included a seed swap and baked goods from recipes found in the book.

Meet-and-greets are more of an open-house style of event, where attendees can come into the store, get their book signed, say hello to the author, and then browse around.

Full moon poetry readings invite attendees to bring their work to share with a group around a fire (weather permitting), as the full moon rises over the east bay of Grand Marais.

Author and artist Shelly Getten, from Two Harbors, with her new poetry collection "Of Cows and Crows."

Some full moon readings, like the most recent one featuring local North Shore poet and artist Shelley Getten, include a special guest or group to join in on the sharing. Getten shared poems from her book Of Cows and Crows, which are arranged to walk the reader through her adolescent years on the farm. All of the artwork in her book is her original block prints as well.

After Getten shared, the floor was opened up to community members and poetry lovers. Almost every member in the audience shared a piece of poetry, either their own or from other poets.

Shelley Getten reads poems about life on the farm as a young girl to the crowd.

All events are free and open to the public, and are held at the bookstore at 12 E Wisconsin Street, Grand Marais (or next to the donut shop). Drury Lane Books Events Planner and Bookseller Kestrel Burton told Boreal Community Media that there may be a few additional events added to the list as the year unfolds.
