A Boreal Community Media Exclusive - May 25, 2025

Congratulations on the exciting news that you are coming home to Cook County! Can you share a bit about your post-college life?  Where are you living and working now?

After college I got a Software Development Job at Minitube USA. I've been living in downtown Madison since graduation and taking advantage of the walkability and fun events in a college town.

What makes you the most happy about moving back to Cook County?

I'm most excited about easy access to nature. To feel like I'm really in the woods around Madison usually involves a long drive, and the locations are usually pretty busy. I'm excited to be able to hike into the woods straight from town, or drive 10 minutes for any number of nice hikes. I'm also happy to be able to spend more time with my family.

The Board and staff at Boreal Community Media are so incredibly proud of you and your accomplishments.  For those who remember, you were one of our first technology interns and blew everyone away with your amazing tech and customer service skills.  Do you have any advice for any youth considering a career in technology?

My advice for young people wanting to get into tech is to take advantage of any opportunities to get hands-on experience. The education system here might not be able to provide students with high level classes in computer science like bigger cities, but hands-on experience can help fill those gaps and let you learn which area of tech you like most. Early experience on your resume also looks really good and can help with college applications and future jobs.

What did you miss the most when you went off to college and moved away from Cook County?

Being in a bigger city, I really missed the simplicity of a small town. It can get annoying to have limited options for where to eat or where to buy things you need, but the option paralysis, overwhelming nature of faster paced life, and classic city things like traffic have worn me out.

What hobbies do you enjoy nowadays when you are not working?

I still enjoy downhill skiing, but it's not quite the same experience in southern Wisconsin as it is in Lutsen. Hiking has been a good pastime too, and as cliche as it is as a computer science graduate, I love playing video games.

Lastly, what is your favorite season in Cook County and why?

My favorite season in Cook County is summer. More specifically late summer/early fall when the bugs are gone, tourism is slowing down, and the temperatures are comfortable.
