On our recent camping trip, we got to see lots of beautiful parts of the country but Lake Superior always draws me back. Standing on the shore of the Big Lake watching the Full Flower Moon come up is pretty magical. Or any moonrise for that matter.

I think this was the first time that I can remember photographing a full moon without other photographers taking part in the experience.  It seemed strange to be alone on the beach for such a gorgeous moonrise. A slight haze in the air brought a picturesque red glow to the scene.

As it got darker the red glow became even more apparent. Since the moon came up a half hour after sunset, I thought it would be too dark for good photos. I am sure glad I drove in. Especially with the reflections in the calm waters of the Grand Marais harbor.
