Starting May 12, the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) will begin a two-year culvert replacement project on Highway 61 between Grand Marais and Grand Portage, affecting six locations near Hovland. The initial work will take place at Myhr Creek (milepost 124.83), where traffic will be reduced to a single lane managed by temporary signals. A temporary bridge bypass will be built before the culvert replacement under Highway 61, with this phase expected to last until late July.

Beginning May 19, similar work will begin at an unnamed creek at milepost 126.11, starting with temporary widening for a bypass and single-lane traffic controlled by signals.

Motorists are advised to obey speed limits (the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300), avoid distractions, move over for workers, and anticipate delays, especially during peak travel times.
