From Greg and Jeanne Wright - March 28, 2025

The ongoing war in Ukraine has left many citizens without electricity, and country-wide rolling blackouts are now the norm. The nonprofits, New Horizons Foundation-USA (MN) and New Vision Renewable Energy (WV), have been working to provide Ray of Life Solar Light kits to help families in Ukraine. These Solar Light Kits will provide Ukrainians with a renewable light source for their homes. It also provides a way for them to charge their cell phones.  As of March 2025, over 1000 light kits have been delivered directly to citizens in Ukraine that live in areas impacted by the Russian bombing. There are two upcoming opportunities to be involved.

For the month of April, Bethlehem Lutheran of Grand Marais will be fundraising, through their Mission of the Month project, to help purchase additional solar kits to give to Ukrainian families. This is an opportunity for anyone who wants to support Ukraine to participate by donating to Bethlehem Lutheran's efforts (you do not have to attend the church to contribute).  Each solar unit costs $125 to build.

In addition to the fundraising, Bethlehem Lutheran will host an Assemble the Lights evening open to all. The components for the solar lights will be brought to Grand Marais, and together, volunteers will assemble the Lights (with training - no experience required!).
