This year’s 40th running of the John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon was rescheduled for this last weekend due to lack of snow in January. Turned out to be enough snow for the race but it was unseasonably warm. 

Monday, I decided to photograph the dogs as they came into the Skyport checkpoint on Devil Track Lake. It looked like the leaders would get there at sunset. 

Erin Altemus who finished second in the race got to Devil Track Lake at just the right time to catch the setting sun’s rays passing between the dogs making for a unique photo.
