The University of Minnesota is seeking volunteers interested in becoming Tree Trackers, helpers who will find, identify and submit their observations to iNaturalist regarding certain tree species. The species of focus are those that possess the potential to migrate into new ranges over time while Minnesota's climate keeps changing as part of our Climate-Ready Woodlands (CRW) programming. Family woodland owners, natural resource professionals, and community members can all be CRW volunteers.
Volunteers will receive a list of trees with migration potential for their region and learn how to identify them. Resources are available to help. Then, volunteers will record the observations into iNaturalist.
Those who currently maintain some of the Tree Trackers' specific tree species and are interested in sharing information about their efforts can also sign up here for the Tree Steward Journal project.
