Senator Grant Hauschild (DFL-Hermantown) testified in the Senate Subcommittee on Veterans Monday in support of legislation he’s authored that would help Ely’s Veterans on the Lake resort, a nonprofit that provides year-round vacations for veterans, disabled public, and their families and friends.
“Every single Minnesotan should have the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors our state has to offer, but that is especially true for our disabled veterans who have sacrificed so much serving our country,” said Sen. Hauschild. “Thankfully, Veterans on the Lake has stepped up to create barrier-free opportunities, thanks to staff and facilities that are equipped to support the unique needs of veterans and individuals with disabilities. As we did in 2023, I’m hopeful we can make supporting this mission-driven work a priority in our budget this year.”
The Subcommittee on Veterans heard two of Senator Hauschild’s bills. The first SF 586, would provide $100,000 over the next two years to support Veterans on the Lake with expenses related to veterans retreats, including therapy, transportation and other activities designed for veterans. The second, SF 613, provides $200,000 in fiscal year 2026 for a grant to fund repairs of Veterans on the Lake septic system.

Both bills were laid over for possible inclusion in a Veterans omnibus bill.
